The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5th, priced at $449.99.
Following an initial reveal with limited details, Nintendo has now officially announced key information about the Switch 2, including its launch date. The Switch 2 is set to release on June 5th, with a starting price of $449.99. A special bundle featuring the new Mario Kart World game will also be available for $499.99.
Preorders for the Switch 2 will begin on April 9th in North America and April 8th in European markets. The base pricing is set at £395.99 in the UK and €469.99 in Germany. Each unit will include the new Joy-Con 2 controllers, a Switch 2 dock, an HDMI cable, a USB-C charging cable, and a Switch 2 AC adapter.
During a dedicated stream, Nintendo revealed additional hardware details for the Switch 2. The console will feature a 7.9-inch, 1080p display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 4K dock that upscales games for TV play, and redesigned Joy-Con 2 controllers with mouse-like functionality. It also boasts a significant storage upgrade, with 256GB of internal space compared to the 32GB available on the original Switch.
In addition to hardware improvements, Nintendo has confirmed new titles for the Switch 2, including Mario Kart World, which will launch exclusively alongside the console on June 5th. The game introduces an open-world mode, dynamic weather conditions affecting gameplay, and support for up to 24 racers per match.
Nintendo has also unveiled a new Switch 2 camera for video calls, a Switch 2 Pro Controller with customizable rear buttons, and support for GameCube games. Additionally, classic Zelda titles will receive special Switch 2 Editions, enhancing their performance and visuals.
The original Nintendo Switch, which launched in 2017, has been a monumental success, selling over 150 million units. It remains one of Nintendo’s best-selling consoles, approaching the lifetime sales of the Nintendo DS (155 million) and PlayStation 2 (160 million). Despite the upcoming launch of the Switch 2, Nintendo continues to support the original Switch with new releases, including The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition.
Beyond gaming, the Switch era has seen Nintendo expand into various entertainment sectors, including theme parks, feature films, a museum, a streaming service, and even a dedicated news app.
